The Man Called UNCLE
Cyril Nathan Andrews, my uncle, was the subject of many story times with my grandmother, mother, aunts and uncles. As a young child I envisioned him far away in Vancouver as a swashbuckling Errol Flynn type hero. The stories were of a man who was courageous, adventurous, generous, funny and full of love for his family and others. I was not disappointed when I finally met my Uncle Cyril. He was all those things and more. He had so many stories to tell that I would listen with rapt attention as he spoke. However, it wasn't his stories that mattered to him but mine that he wanted to hear and HE would listen as if I was the VIP in the room at that moment.
He was bathed in light it seemed to me. An aura emanated from him that I came to know was an aura of love and acceptance and an attitude of 'you can achieve anything' even when you get knocked down and have to start all over again. The 'can do' man! Uncle Cyril, I miss you already and it's only been days. I will continue to sing as you encouraged and will never give up in my quest to be healthy. Thank you for the time you gave to listen, to encourage and inspire. Grandpa no longer has to wait for your letters, Grandma no longer has to wait for your visits and your brothers and sisters have you home just like they did in Ebenezer. I love you but....."hey Buddy" you always knew that.
