Obituary for Martha Junker (Eiserloh)

Martha Junker (Eiserloh)
Martha Junker passed away peacefully at North Shore Hospice on March 21, 2018 with friends and family at her bedside in her final hours. We were so blessed to have a lifetime of memories with our mother, Martha. She touched many with her strength and faith, especially as she faced health challenges in her final years.

Martha was born in Longkamp, Germany and grew up during World War II. She trained to become a hairdresser in Germany and came to Canada by sea in 1958 aboard the Rosa Sun, landing in Montreal. There she boarded a train, getting off in Vancouver, BC because “the train didn’t go any further.” She opened her own successful hairdressing business with a friend shortly after she arrived. She met our father, Willi, and they married in 1961. They made their home in West Vancouver where they raised their 3 children. She loved fresh water fishing, walking on the wild west coast beaches, remodeling their home and gardening.

Predeceased by her parents and sisters Hetwig, Lydia and Hildegard. She will be missed by her husband Willi, her surviving sisters Elfrida, Maria, Elisabeth and her brother Hans, her children Peter (Barbara), Ingrid (Andy) and Mark (Shannon); Grandchildren: Matthew, Lauren, Charlotte, Katerina, Maeve and Jack; Great-grandchild: Kian, as well as the many extended family and friends.

Thanks to the many health care workers who cared for our mom in her final days including staff at Lion’s Gate Hospital and North Shore Hospice.

Friends and family are invited to join us Monday, April 2 at 11am at Saint Anthony’s Church, 2347 Inglewood Ave, West Vancouver, BC for a Funeral Mass. Reception to follow in Parish.

Donations gratefully accepted in Martha’s name can be made by mailing a cheque to The Auxiliary to the Lions Gate Hospital, Attention Lee Anne Lambert, 231 15th St E, North Vancouver, BC V7L 2L7.
