Obituary for Clifford Donald Hoffman

Clifford Donald Hoffman
Clifford Donald Hoffman, born August 28, 1928, peacefully passed away on October 17, 2015 at Lions Gate Hospital.

Don was born and raised on the family farm in Ebenezer, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of six children born to Hugo and Martha (Fenske) Hoffman. Don was predeceased by his parents and his five siblings: Gertrude (Remple), Melvin, Ella (Reiman), Dorothy (Richmond), and Lloyd.

Don attended the University of British Columbia and graduated with a B.Sc. in Pharmacy in 1951.
His early career in Pharmacy began at the Hudson's Bay Company in downtown Vancouver. In 1952, he married Florence Kjellberg and together they raised four children: Marta Christina, Susan, Donald and Tim.

In 1957, Don started his own business, North Shore Pharmacy, in the Lonsdale Medical Dental Building, a building he co-developed with a group of young doctors and dentists. Don was intellectually curious and was particularly fascinated with astronomy. In his younger years, his interest in geology led him to "try his hand" at prospecting in the Yukon. Don's interests and pursuits were many, including competing in curling bonspiels, skiing and boating/cruising the coastal waters around the Gulf Islands and Sunshine Coast.

Don is survived by his wife Florence, his daughters Marta Christina (Ian) MacKay and Susan (Hugh) Bibbs, his sons Donald (Vanessa) and Tim, his grandchildren Katie Bibbs-Lemire, Keith MacKay, Kelly (MacKay) Poole, Devon, Brynn and Skylar. Don is also survived by niece, Daralee Richmond of Burnaby, his sister-in-laws, Esther Hoffman of Yorkton, Saskatchewan and Frances Hoffman of Bismarck, North Dakota and many wonderful nieces and nephews throughout BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, North Dakota and Minnesota.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff at Inglewood Care Centre where Don lived contentedly for five years. The family is deeply appreciative of the care Don received over the years from Dr. Paul Sugar and Dr. Wim Hofmeyr. The family is also grateful for the incredible care he received at Lions Gate Hospital.

A private celebration of Don's life will take place at a later date. Donations in Don's memory to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged.
