Obituary for Yvonne Marie Wiley

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Yvonne Wiley at her in North Vancouver. Early in the morning of September 8th, with her family and devoted dog Murphy around her, she lost her long, hard-fought battle with pulmonary fibrosis and peacefully departed this world to join her parents, two brothers, and son Michael in a better place.

Yvonne was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB, the youngest of three children of Ernest and Catherine McGreevy. Her parents and two brothers pre-deceased her.

After graduating from high school, she worked for several years as a secretary in the Trans Canada Airlines maintenance office in Winnipeg, saving enough money to buy a ticket on the SS United States to Europe where she toured extensively for two years.

Upon her return to Canada, she moved to Vancouver and joined the Canadian Pacific Airlines as a flight attendant where she flew domestic route throughout Western and Northern Canada and international routes to Hawaii, Fiji, and Australia. Her first marriage in 1960 required her to quit flying due to airline policy rules of the day.

She had two children during her first marriage; Michelle Gibson (Jim) and Michael Nash. After her marriage ended, she was hired as a secretary in the Ophthalmology Department at Vancouver General Hospital where she worked until being rehired by CPA as an instructor to train newly hired flight attendants. She ran the Flight Attendant Training Department at CPA for 18 years before retiring.

In 1975 tragedy struck when her son Michael passed away suddenly and unexpectedly due to complications from an undiagnosed heart ailment.

Yvonne met her current husband; Richard (Rick) Wiley in 1976 and they were married one year later. They had 44 years of happiness together.

She is survived by her loving husband Rick, daughter Michelle (Jim) of Bowen Island, step-daughter Carolyn (Terry) of Chilliwack, grand-children Ryan Fraser and Nicole Gibson (Chris) of Mission, and nephews John McGreevy (Liana) of North Vancouver and Gord McGreevy (Candace) of Kelowna.

Due to COVID-19, there will be a small family service only, by request.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to her respiratory specialist Dr. Rajesh Mainra, family physician Dr. Peter House, and the nurses of the North Shore Palliative Care Program for their care and compassion.
