Obituary for Winifred Mary Wilson (Van Kleeck)

Dr. Winifred Mary Wilson (nee Van Kleeck) passed peacefully in her sleep on May 7, 2019 surrounded by her 6 children and best friend, Jan. Born in Armstrong, BC in 1920 to Peter Douglas and Florence Van Kleeck, she was the last of five children and was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Dr. George Wilson of Whytecliff West Van. She graduated from University of Alberta Medical School in 1945 while a Captain in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. She served until her marriage in 1946 and then became the Medical Health Officer of North Vancouver for many years. She is survived by her daughter Eleanor of Zurich, Switzerland, Barbara (Gary) of Brookings, Oregon, Margaret (Nicki) of Gibsons, BC, Georgia (Ulf) of Burnaby, BC, Bogard (Karen) of Salmon Arm, and Van (Marianne) of Squamish.

She had 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Oma, as she was known to all, was an avid scuba diver, fisherman and enjoyed boating, sewing & crafts, and games. She was very involved in ice skating at Capilano Winter Club in the 60’s & 70’s. Oma was witty and intelligent to the end and will be so missed by her family and many friends.

A private memorial will be held with family and friends on May 20th between 1:00 and 3:00 pm. at her home 7185 Cliff Road West Vancouver.
