Stephen Mitianin
May 22, 1933 - April 3, 2023
We sadly announce the passing of our much adored Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He was a respected man, as friends described, a pillar of his community. A strong presence with a kind, joyful, wise, and gentle demeanor.
Born and raised in Montreal, the only son of Anna and Dimitry, who both immigrated to Canada in the 1920's. This is where he met his wife, Olya, marrying in 1955.
After a holiday in Vancouver in 1969, they decided to head West, with by then their 3 children. Here they planted their roots and developed amazing close friendships within the Russian community.
Following an early retirement from BC Hydro Engineering, they began to travel and loved their cruises.
Their main source of joy however, was spending time with their family. Stephen Jr. (predeceased 1985), Kathy (Reno), Nick (Amanda) and their 7 "Perfect" Grandchildren; Nick (Brandy), Jen (Matt), Sasha (Andrey), Sarah (Allan), Danielle (Curtis), Mikey (Hayley) and Nicole (Noah). In 2010 he lost his beloved Olya, shortly after welcoming their first Great Grandchild Charlotte. There were 7 more Great Grandchildren to follow; Hudson, Theo, Elle, Natalia, Everett, Erik and Grayden, who continued to bring him so much happiness.
The family is heartbroken and will cherish every moment we spent with our dear "Shtops". We will miss him terribly and Love him always.
Prayer service will be held at Holy Resurrection Church, 75 East 43rd Ave, Vancouver on Thursday, April 13th at 4:00 PM and Funeral Service on Friday, April 14th at 10:00 AM.
