Obituary for Reza Moussavi
Reza was born in the city of Hamedan where he attended his early and later schooling. He earned a degree in civil engineering from the Technical University of Tehran in 1962.
Reza’s professional career started in the ministry of Roads and Transportation in Iran, developing sections of the Tehran-Karaj Highway, before taking senior engineering roles for developing Iranian roads infrastructure in the provinces of Khorasan, Mazandaran, Kermanshah, Kordestan and later Gilan. Reza took tremendous pride in completion of every road building project and cherished the opportunity to connect Iranian towns and urban centers previously connected by gravel or rudimentary roads – some of those roads were later expanded to become today's highways as populations grew. Reza and his family loved the experience of living in different parts of Iran and have many fond memories.
Later, Reza and family moved back to the capital city where Reza teamed-up with the progressive Pauyar corporation. He loved his work and the people he worked with at Pauyar. Amongst his successful projects were the residential and military building of the Air Force base in Semnan as well as the Royal Guard infrastructure and the base in Laveezan.
Reza enjoyed his profession of civil engineering for over 25 years before migrating with his wife and daughter in 1989 to join their son in Vancouver. Reza was blessed to choose Canada as his home. Although he loved his new city and the surroundings in Vancouver, the whole subject of migration was partly a blessing and partly forced on him due to the circumstances. He was a man of logic, a builder, a progressive Iranian who believed in quality and perfection. It was difficult at the age of 50 to pivot to a completely new life, but he managed. He was driven by the goal of supporting his family to create a future life of happiness in Canada. He remained hard working and focussed relentlessly on the well-being of his family to his death. Although he took on a variety of jobs to keep himself busy, his favorite projects were always linked to building and renovations to make his family happy.
Reza loved his wife, daughter and son so much as to act as the husband, father, grand-father, builder of two family homes and chief driver and babysitter to grandchildren. He enjoyed his grandchildren who were his treasures and source of endless joy. No one could make the grandchildren belly laugh as Reza did. He had a witty sense of humor that illustrated combined intellect, curiosity and playfulness.
Reza's passing has left a big hole in our family and we will all miss him dearly.
He leaves behind his wife, son Siavosh (Nevenka), daughter Soudabeh (Asad) and three much loved grandchildren Sofia Shayan and Axel and Marshall Moussavi.
