Obituary for Patrick Oliver Magee
Patrick Oliver Magee, known affectionately as PO, peacefully passed away at his West Vancouver home in the midst of his 94th year. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Henriette Magee (nee Pellerin) in 2009, PO leaves behind a cherished legacy. He is survived by his four children: Patti Martin (Jim), Kieran Magee (Karen), Michelle Robertson (Doug), and Moira Fricke (Paul), along with 13 grandchildren, 24+ great-grandchildren, his brother Sean, sister Ena, extended family, friends, and church community.
Born in Dungarven, County Waterford, on July 12, 1929, to Henry Magee and Catherine Sheehan, PO was part of a large Catholic family. His journey led him from Ireland to Canada in 1954, where he met and married a farm girl from Saskatchewan, Henriette Pellerin thus laying the foundation for a new life and family.
Throughout his varied career—ranging from owning a gas station to working in social services—PO's innate ability to connect with people shone. His true treasures were relationships and memories; his memory was legendary, recalling names, places, and events spanning decades.
PO's magnetic charm extended to his love for sports, especially golf and soccer. He cherished his friendships, always staying connected. His family held a special place in his heart; he took immense pride in their every milestone.
After Henriette's passing, PO found solace living with Kieran, Karen, and their family in West Vancouver. Grateful for their care, the family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jim Bovard for his exceptional care. PO's involvement in St. Edmund’s Parish and Christ the Redeemer community brought him immense joy and comfort in his later years.
His unwavering love touched all who crossed his path, leaving a legacy of compassion and kindness. PO's life exemplified the golden rule, inspiring others to do the same.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family encourages honoring PO's memory by showing kindness to medical staff—a gesture deeply appreciated by him during his hospital visits.
