Obituary

Pat Dixon

Patricia (McGall) Dixon passed away peacefully on February 27, 2020 after a short battle with brain cancer. Her children, Jay and Julie Dixon, were at her side.

Pat was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1943. She grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and was in the very first graduating class at Aden Bowman Collegiate. After one year of Teacher’s College training, Pat began her teaching in Saskatoon. She moved to Edmonton in 1965 to live with long-time friend, Sandy Barnason McCleary and teach elementary school. There Pat met the love of her life, Jim Dixon. Children, James Jay and Julie Anne, followed shortly after.

The Dixon family loved to travel. Pat and Jim took young Jay and Julie on many adventures around the world. After Jim’s passing in April of 2004, Pat continued to travel, literally cruising around the world with friends and family, including grandsons Noah, Jack and Nate.

Pat’s love of life, love of people and joyous greetings will be missed by so many friends and family.

A memorial will be held in Edmonton at a later date.

Dear Jay and Julie,
Donna B. and I are two yoga friends of Pat. We met at Iyengar Yoga in Victoria and enjoyed having tea/coffee and conversation with Pat after many of the classes. She would talk with delight of her many travels and about her children and grandchildren.
We will miss her at yoga. Our sincere condolences to you and your family.

I had not known Pat for long. We met at Newcomers in Victoria and she was one of the first people to greet me and make me feel welcome and at home in my new city. I will remember her as a very friendly and gracious woman. I am very sorry for your loss.
Kindest regards,

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of
your very dear mother.
We taught together in Dovercourt way back in 1965.
Although we went our separate ways, I did visit your home when
Jay arrived on the scene but life got busy. We ran into
each other 6 years ago and we had a lovely chat. She was
a very proud and contented mother and grandmother. She was especially proud of her grandchildren.
May it be a comfort to you to know how much joy you had given her. I can relate
to that because I know how much joy mine have given me.
My regret is that I didn't get to meet her for coffee
but somehow my life is extremely busy and this was on
my list to do. Over that time I kept thinking of her and
thought of making a date weeks before her passing.
I wish peace and healing for your family at this time.
Tomorrow the sun is sure to shine; each time you think of
her .....she lives in your heart.

Dear Jay and Julie,
I was with great sadness that I learned of the loss of your mother. She and I had been friends for fifty years and it came as a shock. We were in touch at Christmas and I know that your families had plans to go to Mexico so I'm hoping that means she did not suffer for too long with her diagnosis. She will be remembered for her friendship and her willingness to try life's adventures. Wth deep condolences - Patti-Lynn and Barrett Chevalier
