Obituary for Norman Arthur Alban

Norm’s adventure with life ended unexpectedly in his 86th year. His quick and insightful sense of humour will be missed by everyone fortunate to know him.

He leaves behind his travelling companion of 62 years, his beloved wife Catharine, his two chil-dren and their spouses, and his four grandchildren, in whose own adventures he took great pleasure and delight. He will also be greatly missed by his close extended family in Alberta, BC, and Ontario.

Norm’s long life gave him the opportunity to have not one but a series of careers, from 40 years with Price Waterhouse to volunteering in developing countries halfway around the world after his official retirement. Locally, he served various community and public bodies, including twelve years as a West Vancouver School Trustee.

He was still actively involved before his untimely passing, as he continued a long and dedicated involvement in his church and enjoyed the company of his bridge groups, the Probus Club, and his “Fit Fellas” workout class.

Norm will be remembered for his intelligence and thoughtfulness in all endeavours. We will miss his calm manner, observational wit, and his ability to reassure and fortify others.

Memorial service at West Vancouver United Church at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Vancouver United Church Endow-ment Fund (in support of community projects) or to the charity of your choice.
