Obituary for Nancy Anita Zavediuk (Pasochnik)

Nancy Anita Zavediuk passed away quietly in her sleep March 9, 2023, at the age of 89. In sixty-two years of marriage with husband, Gordon, they shared a lifetime of love and devotion to the last day of her lengthy illness.

Nancy has been the centre of a caring family, daughter Melanie, her husband Greg Shulman, two grandsons Jacob and Oliver and her son Greg, and granddaughter Natalie, in every wonderful moment together.

Nancy was born in Triangle, Alberta to devoted Ukrainian immigrant parents, Olga, and John Pasochnik. Her mother and father supported a daughter’s opportunities for education in the 1950’s; Nancy earned her Bachelor of Science in Household Economics from University of Alberta, and postgraduate Dietetics at Toronto General Hospital. For eight years, she was a Province of Alberta Supervisor for 4H Clubs and then in 1964 became a Clothing Specialist for the Department of Agriculture.

Nancy and Gordon married in 1961 and soon adventure called. The 1967 Carib Ocho Rios Resort in Jamaica became the first stop in raising a family far from home. As the children grew older, new frontiers called back in Canada and West Vancouver became their forever home.

The family grew up together skiing weekends at their Whistler cabin and spent summers driving to the Prairies to visit family. Nightly homemade meals together while juggling practice or piano recitals, church, choir, dance, and Ukrainian lessons, were all because of Mom’s determination.

Nancy, with her wonderful artistic skills, filled the home with handmade clothing, pottery, and Ukrainian art, especially pysanky. Tradition played a large part in the family, no opportunity to sing in a choir was missed and no one ever left a Ukrainian meal hungry. The greatest gift she gave her family is the loving appreciation of family, art, music, and cooking, attributes the grandchildren are exhibiting with style.

Baba and Dido loved to travel and the opportunities for the whole family to share their passion has made countless fantastic adventures, especially in Mexico. Family was everything to Baba and we will miss her dearly, however our hearts are forever filled with the memories, love, and faith in family she has instilled in us.
