Marcel passed away peacefully at the age of 62 on Monday May 6th, 2019. He had a very difficult time battling his own health and grieving over his wife Muriel.

Marcel was a Journeyman Steel Fabricator. He began in this profession from his grandfather Wendal as they worked together at Degelman Industries in Regina. Marcel could craft and design anything made of metal. Even in his last days he was saying "I need to build something, I'm just not sure what that is yet".

Although steel was his trade, his true passions were music and playing (he would say "blasting") his guitars, growing hot peppers, guns and fishing. His last days were filled with thoughts of going to the Capilano River and casting a line. "Oh boy!" he'd say.

Marcel began playing a guitar in his mid teens. He tried other instruments such as the flute, but the guitar grabbed him and he never let go. He, his brother Antony, and some friends began a band called LLEEDS. They had some local success playing in high schools and entering battle of the bands contests. Marcel wrote and recorded his songs (he played all the guitars on the recording) and entered them on where for a time his songs were 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in British Columbia and 3 of his songs were rated in the top 10 in Canada. One of them reached #5.

Marcel loved his friends and family more than anything else. He and his wife Muriel were soul mates and best friends. The happiest days of his life were when he married her and when his son Tiger was born. Marcel is survived by his mother Harriette (Daisy), his father Karl (Charlie), his son Tiger, his brother Antony, his sisters Lorraine, Lana and Faith, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be greatly missed and remembered for his humour and passions.

A celebration of life will take place at the Capilano River Regional Park (in the picnic area just directly downstream from the hatchery) at 1:00pm on Friday, May 31st. Bring your finishing rods. We will be dropping a few lines in Marcel's honour.

I met Marcel in early 1979 and liked him right away.
He had a talent with the guitar and being that I played the drums, we decided to form a band with his brother Antony and their friend Brian Jones. We began rehearsing at his house on 35th and Victoria Drive, and in early 1980, we moved our band LLeeds to a warehouse in New Westminster. Marcel was beautiful to know and play music with, and I have nothing but fond memories of him. Although the band ended in late 1980, I always remained his friend. These past few years, we had many conversations and online interactions sharing stories about music and his recording. He always sent them to me with tremendous enthusiasm!
I feel very saddened to hear about his passing, and I will truly miss him.

Lorraine - Thank you for the conversation a couple of weeks ago, this meant a lot to me.

I send my condolences to everyone in Marcel’s Family.
Love and respect
Jeff Borden

Marcel and I had fun sharing Hot pepper seeds to plant, He so liked the dragon pepper seeds I mailed him. (friends brought them back for me to give to Marcel from Mexico). When he came to Regina he so wanted a Saskatchewan Roughrider hat, so I got him one - I am the Samp fan so any time there was a game against the two teams we were wearing our hats and on the phone talking about the game.

“There must be as many reasons to want to play a musical instrument as there are songs ever written.” When his love of music began.
