Obituary for Keen Lau

Keen was born in Singapore on September 20, 1977. He attended Nanyang Primary School as well as Anglo-Chinese School. His family immigrated to West Vancouver, Canada in 1991 and after High School, he fulfilled his National Service duty in Singapore for two and a half years.

He completed his undergraduate degree from University of British Columbia (UBC) and an MBA from IE Business School and Singapore Management University. He also represented UBC for alpine ski racing.

Keen was deeply committed to the community. He offered to serve on council in the 2022 municipal election. Throughout the years, Keen volunteered in various capacities with the B.C. Children’s Hospital, S.U.C.C.E.S.S Foundation and the HSBC sponsored First Nations Youth Rugby Clinic. Keen was also deeply passionate about the mountains. He was a BC Mountain Foundation board member and volunteered for trail maintenance with the BC Mountaineering Club.

Keen died at age 45 while trying to save their beloved dog Loki. This tragedy occurred in Cypress Falls Park in West Vancouver on May 19, 2023. He was a truly kind, devoted, positive and empathetic individual who paid the costly price of trying to help others.

The family is grateful and thanks our relatives, friends, neighbors, West Vancouver police, West Vancouver Fire & Rescue, North Shore Rescue and the District of West Vancouverfor the love and support we’ve received.

In lieu of flowers, we welcome donations that will go towards an outdoor fitness park in Ambleside, dog care and improved safety at Cypress Falls Park.
