Obituary for Kathleen Joan Martin

Kathleen Joan Martin (nee Kearney) passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Kathy dedicated her life to helping others; a passionate nurse, teacher and friend who wouldn’t hesitate to support anyone in her circle. Her family was the most important thing to her. She led by example while encouraging them to be the best versions of themselves.

Kathy’s strong family values began in her childhood home in East Vancouver, where she grew up with four siblings and many friends. In 1985, she married the love of her life, Doug Martin and moved to West Vancouver where they raised four children. The family has countless fond memories of their time spent together travelling, boating and on obligatory family runs.

She initially attended nursing school at VGH and after spending fifteen years in pediatric nursing she shifted her career to training and educating new nurses. After obtaining her masters in teaching at UBC she used her passion to leave her mark on thousands of students at BCIT.

She made and held onto many friends throughout her life and always made time to hang out with all of them. This included running on the seawall every morning followed by the famous gossip group at Delaney's. A special thank you to Margaret Corbett, who was always there for Kathy and family, especially in her final weeks.

Kathy will be dearly missed by all and her spirit will continue to live on through all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Kathy’s honour to BC Cancer, who through Dr. Melosky and her team provided exceptional care over the last year.

Celebration of Life to be held at a later date, announcement to follow.
