Obituary for Judith Marilyn "Judy" Smith (Mohr)

Smith, Judy (Judith) Marilyn Nee (Mohr)

Judy was born May, 1939 in Vancouver and was an energetic, curious little girl. She enjoyed many sports but was passionate about downhill skiing. She skied the slopes of the North Vancouver mountains but Grouse Mountain was her favorite. Judy shared many happy memories of her skiing days and loved competing in which she won several medals. Judy also briefly worked at White Spot as a waitress where she served a regular customer who soon became her father in law by marrying his son Ron in 1963.

Judy became a primary school teacher and spent most of her career teaching Kindergarten to Grade 2 at Cunningham Elementary school in Vancouver. She was a dedicated teacher, loved her students and made lifelong friends with many colleagues. She had impeccable printing and added her special touches to all her displays of student assignments and artwork inside and outside her classrooms. Judy loved socializing with her teaching friends and often organized lunches at restaurants such as Tops and the Eldorado hotel. After retiring she kept in touch with many of her friends. Judy was instrumental in keeping the " Lunch Bunch " going and also helped organize the "Same Time Next year" lunches.

Judy loved her family and was happily married to Ron for 57 years and loving mother to Michele. She also loved her Granddog Brody with whom she had a special connection. She loved to cook and bake but especially loved swimming and could often be found laying in the sun by her backyard pool. She travelled the world over but fell in love with Hawaii. She frequented Waikiki with her family. Judy considered Hawaii to be her 2nd home and often said "Happiness is Hawaii".

Judy courageously battled Rheumatoid Arthritis for almost 40 years and never complained despite the effects of this debilitating disease. She always had a positive attitude, was a good listener and loved talking to everyone. Judy was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all who new her. She was generous and had a real zest for life and will be missed by her family and friends. A private family gathering was held and to respect Judy's request, no services will be held.
