It is with great sadness we share the passing of our dear Mom and Dad.
They were married for 68 wonderful years and shared a mutual deep love and respect.
They could never have imagined life apart and passed within hours of each other. Holding hands on the last day, still loving and caring, a beautiful picture for our memories.
Howard and Juanita have left a legacy of love to be carried on by their daughter Sharon (much loved son-in-law Bill - deceased) and his children and grandchildren Ashley,( Michael), Marin and Henry. Tyler, (Adam), Emmett and Gareth. Raegan, (Steve), Milah, Nola and Luke. Whitney and (Mitch).
Daughter Diana Coleman (much loved son-in-law Danny - deceased), granddaughter Sarah, great grandchildren Xavier, Kingston, and Alyssa. Grandson Shane. Granddaughter Emma (Sami), great grandson Ashton.
Son, Doug (Rebecca) and her children, grandsons Alexander and Stuart (Nancy).
Many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and family friends. Sharon's dear puppy Leo also shared a special place in their hearts.
Howard was a very successful business man who worked primarily with one company (CanCar, a division of Hawker Siddeley) for 44 years. In 1942 he started as a machinist apprentice. Two years later he signed up with the Canadian Army overseas where he proudly served from 1944 to 1946. Upon his return to Vancouver he resumed his employment and pursued his career with much hard work and dedication. In 1976 he became the General Manager, remaining in that position until 1983. He was then appointed to the Workers Compensation Review Board where he continued in this position for a decade. Undoubtedly, the biggest event in Howard's life was when he married his loving wife, Juanita . They were married on September 8, 1951 in Vancouver, B.C.
After a short but illustrious career with the Department of Agriculture Juanita happily settled into family life.
Howard and Juanita lived on the North Shore all their lives, raising their three children with much love and dedication. Teaching honour, integrity and the importance of doing the right thing. There were many happy family holidays at Hatzic Lake, Whistler, Hawaii and Kelowna. Their favourite holiday time was Christmas with all their family gathered around them. Juanita was the best cook, baker and hostess extraordinaire. Their home was decorated beautifully with many Christmas treasures. There were always fabulous desserts and everyone left with one of Mom's famous gingerbread boys. Family gatherings were also celebrated with endless boxes of Purdys chocolates and special ice cream cakes from Baskin and Robbins.
Howard enjoyed his golf games at the Capilano Golf Club and most Saturday nights you would find both of them up there for dinner, often with friends and family. He was a man of his word, trustworthy, kind and thoughtful. He had a very pragmatic mind and a witty, dry sense of humour.
Juanita was a kind, loving, caring woman whose family meant everything to her. For such a little person she had more energy than most of us and was always ready to join in on whatever was going on. Together they were "a force to be reckoned with". Each and everyone of us has learned so much from their fine example.
Dad enjoyed reading the North Shore News, particularly Joan Klucha's column; Canine Connection. He would often read it aloud to Mom. After reading Sunday's column of July 1, 2012, he said that he would like to be remembered by this. (As told to Joan by her Dad after the death of her dog)
"The flesh of a peach, a dog or a person is all made from nature, anything that is born from nature must return to nature. But we never really die, within all of us is a spirit. This spirit is what makes us want to get up each morning and sing with the birds. That part of us lives forever.
He has that spirit too. His body is not here any more for you to see, to touch and hold. He is now inside of you, where you can hold him in your thoughts, see him in your dreams and touch him with your heart."
