Joan Ann McCallum (Young )

Sunday July 21, 1940 -- Monday August 15, 2022

Joan Ann McCallum (born Young), passed away peacefully at Lion’s Gate Hospital in North Vancouver on August 15, 2022. Born on July 21, 1940, Joan was 82 years old.
She will be deeply missed by her husband Robert, son Andrew, daughter-in-law Anri and grandchildren Robert Lidster, Katie McArthur, Cayley, Connor and Mia McCallum and great – grandchildren William and Alexandra McArthur as well as all her extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her brother Alan Young and by her daughter Debbie Lidster.
She was born and grew up in South Africa and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1978.
Joan was a loving traditional family Mom who was loved by everyone. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed holidays with her family in South Africa, California, Mexico and Maui. One of her favourite experiences was swimming with dolphins in Mexico.
She also loved cruises and did a number of these on both the west and east coasts of America as well as a river cruise down the Rhine.
Joan loved our trips to London and attending the plays that were running at the time but also driving the byways through the little English hamlets especially a trip to the Cotswolds’.
Joan loved animals and especially her two small Shih Tzu dogs Manchu and Max.
A very generous person she insisted on helping anyone she thought was in need and many people here and abroad can testify to this.
A key characteristic of hers was her fighting spirit and great emotional strength. Very loyal to her family and friends she provided tremendous support to Rob in all his struggles in the mining industry. She was always ready to listen and to provide advice and encouragement.
Darling Joan we will love you forever. You will always be in my heart and the hearts of all who know you.
Rest in peace, sweetheart!
A Celebration of her life will be held on Sunday August 28th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at West Vancouver United Church
