Obituary for Janine Fernandes (Hinkley)

Janine /Jill Fernandes (nee ) Hinkley passed away peacefully at home July 24th in the presence of Sarah her daughter and Howard her husband.

She had been fighting a variety of cancers very bravely for quite a long time.

Janine went to Cheltenham Grammar and was a star Netball player ,height helped she said.

Janine’s nursing career . 1959-1961 at Guy's Hospital in London where she obtained her children's nursing .

1961 - 1964 Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford to train to be a registered nurse. 2 years at Guys and then had to do only2 yrs. for her registered nurses .

She went to the London Hospital in 1964 to do part one midwifery. Spent a further year specializing on a medical ward at the London Hospital in Whitechapel.

Emigrated to Vancouver, B..C. In Oct. 1965 and worked on a Medical ward at the V.G. H.

Many years later Janine did social work and was able to help a lot of struggling kids and their families.

She left social work after having Sarah and in 1980 went to work at Inglewood Care Home in WV.

She joined the Joker’s field hockey club in 1965 and was a member in The 1st women’s team at the club.
She played and travelled to numerous countries with the Joker’s International Hockey.

Janine lived at the Heather street house with other nurses from England , famous for social Joker gatherings.
Janine will be missed by her family and a lot of friends of long standing.

Her happy cheerful disposition was able to put a smile on a lot of faces.
