Obituary

On July 1st, 2020, Horstdieter Seliger passed away in North Vancouver. He leaves behind his loving wife, Elsa Seliger, in which they shared just short of 50 years together. His siblings Ruthild (Hank), Fred (Roswitha), Trudy (George), and their families in Canada. Also mourning his death are his extended Bodden-Leroux family (some in Canada, the USA, but mainly in the Dominican Republic, which was so dear to him).

A private funeral mass will be held at St. Edmund's Catholic Parish, North Vancouver.

Horst's family is so thankful for the caring nurses and support staff at Inglewood Care Home who took such great care of Horst. As well as all the supportive and amazing staff at Lions Gate Hospital and the North Shore Hospice.

Thank you as well, to the Seligers-Giovinazzo family, the Offereins, the Quist family and all those who have helped Elsa and her family over these past few months. Your thoughts and condolences have meant so much to us.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Shore Hospice Society and the Alzheimer's Society.

Beloved sister/aunt:

You had the blessing of many years together with Horst, a great companion.
Now the time has come to say goodbye, but we know that God and the universe have reserved for him something grand and special.
It is proper to say that you, Elsa, were the exemplary wife: loving, faithful, and selfless.
We also know that you are strong and can continue moving forward in this life.
We love you, and send you a big hug, Guillermo and Laura.

Dear Horst:

We are at a loss for words upon hearing the sad news of your departure... You always used your voice to give peace and reconciliation... Today, with your departure, there is no longer any chance of seeing you again, of feeling and enjoying your company... Yet there will remain fond attachments, like indelible ink, stemming from our memories, your smile... your light and your peace... You always drank of the waters of Heaven, which is why today we give thanks to the Lord for the gift of a brother as special as you were... for the beautiful life, fully enjoyed alongside Elsa Alida... for the kindness that we received from you!!...
In our family, Horst represents, just as he did for Mama and Papa, an invaluable and irreplaceable individual, whose influence will reverberate forever in our hearts because of his good character, nobility, and right actions... his Christian convictions, his teachings and his life example, are values that unequivocally will serve as a luminous reflection to those of us still present and to future generations...
Today, while in the midst of overwhelming sadness, we wish Elsa, the Seliger family, and the Bodden Leroux Family, a fraternal hug permeated by the force of the Spirit... a hug that we hope transforms suffering into Light of the Highest... and pain into enjoyment of the Soul...
May the Father bless always our brother Horst, may house him in his mansions and luminescence, and give him perpetual Light and Spirit. AMEN.

Today we say goodbye to the physical form of our beloved brother and uncle, Horst. We feel permeated by a great sense of sadness, but we find ourselves in the grand necessity of giving thanks to the Father for the life of love, kindness, and solidarity that he lived alongside Elsa Alida, and for his always living as a true brother, present in the lives of all our family members. We are comforted by the testimony of our sister, Elsa, in which she thanks the Almighty for the gift of having had him at her side for so many years. He was a special being who embraced us with his peace, his kindness, and his love.
From the bottom of our hearts, we extend a warm and special hug to each of the members of the Bodden-Leroux family and the Seliger Family, as a symbol of our condolences during this difficult time. At the same time, we pray to our Lord that He keep a special spot for Horst within his home, and that he give us the acceptance and understanding of his mysteries...

Peace to the Soul of our beloved Horst!

Dear Elsa Alida, Seliger Family, Bodden -Leroux Family:

Today we express our grief over the loss of a great man. It deeply saddens us that Horst passed away. For us, it was a privilege and a blessing to have him as a brother.
Horst was one of the nicest people we’ve ever met, a gentle, kind, and God-loving soul.

May he rest in peace and the good Lord comfort us.

Dear Titi Elsa and Seliger Family:

We are very sad, yet at the same time at peace, to know that Tio Horst now rests with Our Father in Heaven.
Beloved husband, brother, son, uncle, we will never forget Tio Horst; he came to our family and was taken in as one of ours. Tio Horst was always affable, always smiling, and with his peculiar and vast cultural knowledge he was always very special to all of us. Even though we didn't spend a long time with him, the quality of the time we did spend was infinite.
Just as much, we will not be able to forget how he always referred to our parents: papa and mama, with abundant respect and gentleness.
As for his nieces and nephews, he was always asking about them and confirming their names: “there are many of them,” he used to say.
There is so much to say but not enough time or space in these pages to capture all our feelings and thoughts at this time.
We wish all of you strength and peace during this difficult time.
God bless all of you,

Nelson and Gaby
