Obituary for Hans Jorg Leber

Hans Leber passed away peacefully on January 20, 2019 at Evergreen House in North Vancouver. Hans was predeceased by his parents Olga and Johann, and two brothers, Heinz and Gerhard Leber.

Hans was born on August 5, 1938 in Brombach, Germany. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Leber (nee Nichol), his children, Michelle (Gord) and Jason (Merryn) and four granddaughters, Paige, Morgan, Anja and Maelle.

Hans immigrated to Vancouver in 1962, where he met his wife Joan. They married in 1970 and raised their family in North Vancouver. Hans worked as a master pastry chef and went on to share his talent and passion with hundreds of apprentices across BC while he worked as a baking instructor at BCIT and VCC. He was often asked to make cakes for large events and was admired by many for his pastry creations. He will be remembered for his patience, kindness and artistry that was shown to his students and in all of his masterpieces.

After he retired he continued to bake for others and his kitchen always had a project on the go. He enjoyed walking around the neighborhood or the Seawall, stopping to talk with many along the way. He loved to catch a soccer game, spend time at the horse track, or relaxing with friends at the family vacation spot in Harrison Hot Springs. He had a gentle, kind spirit that touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held from 1:00-3:00pm on March 9th at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, 3811 Point Grey Road, Vancouver.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson Canada or Diabetes Canada.
