Obituary for Gertrude Anne Broad

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gertrude (Trudy) Anne Broad (nee Dean) on August 10th, 2020. Trudy was predeceased by her husband Donald Archibald Broad, her father Lloyd Alfred Dean, mother Rose Alma Dean (nee Hamel), brothers Lyle and Bert Dean and sister Helen Maher (nee Dean).

Trudy was born in 1927 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She grew up in Saskatchewan, and graduated with a BA in English from the University of Saskatchewan, later working for the Dean of Law where she first met her future husband Don. But adventure beckoned and she headed to Vancouver, where she once again met up with Don and they were soon married. Don, Darrell and Tom were born and in 1960 the family moved to Montreal where Patricia was born. In the 1980's Trudy and Don moved back to their beloved North Vancouver.

Mom was known as a strong, intelligent and independent woman. The arc of her life reflects these characteristics - notably her ability to engage in articulate, challenging and compelling conversations. Her language skills were determinedly perfect, a value that she impressed upon her children.

Trudy will be fondly remembered for these traits, along with her kindness and interest in others. She is survived and will be deeply missed by sons Don (Susan), Darrell (Mary) Tom (Guylaine) and daughter Patricia; grandchildren Lisa Harker (Adam), Michael Broad (Morgan Bathurst), Hannah Broad, Aaron Broad, Derek Broad, Sophie Broad and great-grandchildren Olive and Julia.
