Obituary for Darin Dale Conrad

In Loving Memory of a Great Guy:

Darin Dale Conrad
January 26, 1973 - November 22, 2022

Darin was born in Edmonton Alberta. He was raised in the hamlet of Sherwood Park where he graduated with an advanced diploma from Salisbury Composite High School and then went on to Grant MacEwan College. There, he completed studies in their Golf Management Program and put his knowledge to work at a few Alberta courses such as Legends, Highlands, Jasper Park Lodge, and also Belvedere. This is where he met the love of his life, Shawna. Darin loved sports and if you didn’t see him at the golf course or on the slopes, he would be in one of the local ice rinks playing hockey. To the dismay of many single young ladies in the area, Darin married Shawna in 1999 and then moved to North Vancouver. Darin worked with his Dad for a short time and then ventured out on his own where he began operating service stations in the Vancouver area. In 2002, Shawna gave birth to their first of three boys. Darin’s sons were the world to him and he was one of the proudest fathers. He spent many hours with each of them showing them the ropes on the slopes, the fairways, the ice, the snooker table, and even the poker table. Recent years saw Darin acquire his real estate license for both residential and commercial transactions and worked primarily in Squamish, the Lower Mainland, and on the Sunshine Coast.

Darin is survived by his amazing and athletic sons, Kobe, Kaeden, and Kyan, whom he loved so much. His beautiful friend and spouse of many years, Shawna Unger-Conrad all from North Vancouver. Darin is also survived by his wonderful parents, Diane and Dale Conrad, his caring sister Darcie Conrad, niece Summer Toews, her husband Daniel Toews and their children, Hudson, Coast, and Portland all residing in Kamloops BC. As well, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and his best friend, Rob Bird of Squamish…Rob is the brother Darin never had.

In lieu of flowers, Darin would instead want you to take a moment to stop and smell them, give a big hug to someone you love, then go and do something with them. Go play a round of golf, go to a movie, have coffee. Spend some time. Make sure to laugh! Cherish your relationships. ‘Life is too short” he would say, “so make the most of it”.

There will be a Celebration of Life in the Spring for all who knew and loved him. Stories will be shared and laughter will be the order of the day. Details will follow in a few months. Thank you to everyone for your love and support, and for also giving us time to process before contacting us directly. We will need some time. We are extremely grateful to know how many lives Darin touched.

Darin, your foursome will be together again soon at the Pearly Gates Golf and Country Club. You had better spend some time on the range before we get there because two of us will be trying to get the angel dust out of your wallet. Your partner will be doing “heavenly” shots like skipping balls over the water and up to the pin on 18 trying to get the winning point. Even in heaven however, he will more than likely miss the putt. Then you, from one fairway over, will “sling” your wedge around a tree 90 degrees for a tap in win, as only you can do. We look forward to our next game.

We know exactly what the first tee box looks like already….and it’s magnificent!
