Obituary

CRAWFORD WALTER HAWKINS

September 21, 1933 – June 25, 2019

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Crawford had a full life. He served in the United States Marine Corps at 18 and was a veteran of the Korean War. Following, he returned to New York working his way up in the film/television/advertising business, starting in the mail room, and moving on to editor, producer, director, post-production supervisor, and executive director of the Directors Guild of Canada in British Columbia. He was always happy to volunteer his time to film community initiatives and events, and he was a mentor for many in the industry. Crawford was blessed to have many friends and supporters in his adopted town of Vancouver and throughout the business in Canada and the United States. He leaves two brothers, James and Edward, his wife of 39 years Lid, three children, Patti, Douglas and Gordon, and four grandchildren, Daniel, Audry, Michael, and Kai Crawford – all of whom will miss him keenly.

In lieu of flowers or other considerations, please visit www.hawkinsscholarships.com for forthcoming information on how you can support his legacy of a strong and vibrant film industry in British Columbia.

I am so very sorry to hear of Crawford’s passing. He was a wonderful leader for our industry and he meant so much more to his colleagues. I personally knew Crawford since the mid-80s and regarded him fondly as one of my mentors and a good friend. We’ll miss you very much Crawford. I share my heartfelt condolences with the family.
