CARPENTER, CHARLES WINFIELD M.D. C.M., F.R.C.S. (C)
August 21, 1929 - April 2, 2023
Charlie, Papa, Uncle Chuck - athlete, artist, physician, researcher, and true gentleman.
Born in Vancouver, Charlie graduated from Burnaby North High School and Queen's University, receiving his medical degree in 1954. He did his Postgraduate work in Vancouver, Kingston, Edinburgh, London, and Europe. Charlie was a respected Obstetrician/ Gynecologist whose calm, reassuring expertise soothed many high-risk patients. He was a pioneer in the treatment of Rh disease.
Lovingly remembered by Pat (Davidson), his wife of 65 years, sons Andrew and Robert (Michele), Kirsty Carpenter, beloved grandsons Nicolas, John and Thomas, step-granddaughter Megan (Chris), sister's in-law Nancy Macdonald and Cicely Carpenter, cousin Beth Coleman, and much loved nieces and nephews and their families.
He was predeceased by parents Helen (McEwan) and George B. Carpenter, brother Don Carpenter, sister Beatrice Hunter and niece Corinne Fraser.
The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers from V.C.H. 3 Bridges, Eldon Mendoza, Dr. James Warren, Dr. Judith Hammond, the staff of 8A B.P. V.G.H., and so many others who helped Charlie over the years.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 1 P.M. at Shaughnessy Heights United Church, 1550 W. 33rd Ave. Reception to follow.
