Obituary for Norman Joseph Metz

Norman Joseph Metz
1935 – 2017

Norman passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday September 18th at the age of 82. He will be profoundly missed by Valerie, his wife of 60 years, and his children Jacqueline (Mohamed), Gregory, and David, as well as cousins in the prairies, and many friends.
Norman was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and grew up in Rowatt, a few miles from the city. As a teenager he was active in sports, especially baseball, hockey, and badminton, and enjoyed summers at Echo Lake. After attending Regina Technical School, he went to the University of Manitoba where he received his B.Architecture and M.Architecture.
Upon graduating he and his new wife headed up to the Peace River region of BC to set up Killick Metz Architects, later Killick Metz Bowen Rose, the first architectural office north of Prince George. During his years in the north his work took him to the Yukon, throughout BC and the prairies, and to Abu Dhabi. In 1971 he moved his family to West Vancouver. He retired from practice in 1994. He was proud that the firm continues today as KMBR Architects.
Norm was a loving family man, most at peace in the home and garden he created and nurtured over many years. We have many fond memories of skiing and camping throughout northern BC, across Canada and into the US. He also enjoyed many travels to Mexico, Europe and Maui with Valerie. We will remember him for his kindness, integrity, intellect, and quiet compassion.
Funeral services will be held at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 599 Keith Road, West Vancouver on Tuesday September 26 at 10:30am. A reception will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers a donation to Covenant House would be appreciated.
