Obituary for Dorothy Jean Hanna

Dorothy Jean Hanna
HANNA, Dorothy (“Dot”) Jean Gordon (née Addison)
May 25, 1925 - May 7, 2017
Dot passed away peacefully in West Vancouver, BC at age 91 with her adoring family by her side. She is lovingly remembered by her son Scott (Sarah), daughters Leslea, Wendy (Greg) and Kerry, sister Ronda (Cliff), grandchildren Eleanor, Tory, Aaron, Lindsay and Kaden, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Dot was born in Calgary and moved to Vancouver as a young girl. She grew up in the West End and Cambie & Oak Street areas, and spent many of her leisure hours with family and friends at the local beaches. After leaving King Edward High School, Dot went to work as an operator at BC Tel. At the age of 18 she met the love of her life, Bob Hanna, while diving off the rocks at Bowen Island and told her mom soon after that she'd met the man she was going to marry. She and Bob started their family several years later and had their four kids while living in Vancouver. In support of Bob’s career, the family then moved between North Vancouver, Prince George and Kamloops for the next 15 years until finally settling in North Vancouver. Over the years, Dot stayed home to raise her children while working part-time at Isaacs Pharmacy, Woodwards and Sears. Dot, Bob and family loved to camp and spent many wonderful summers at various lake and ocean side resorts around the province including 11 summers at Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast. In 1981 they built their summer home in Birch Bay, WA which they continued to enjoy every weekend for almost 30 years. Dot was an avid swimmer who loved the ocean, beach and sunshine. As a social butterfly she was warm, friendly and full of life and no one remained a stranger to her for long. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and friend and she will be dearly missed by all. The family wish to thank the staff of Capilano Care Centre for the wonderful love and care provided to her. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 14th at 11 AM at Deep Cove Yacht Club, 4420 Gallant Ave, North Vancouver, reception to follow (dress is casual). In memory of Dot and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Children's Hospital Foundation at www.bcchf.ca. To sign the book of condolences, please visit www.mckenziefuneralservices.com.
