Condolence: Deepest condolences to Gail and family. Dick had a deep commitment not only to the law but to his fellow man. I articled with Dick's then firm when Rowan and Martin's Laugh In show was the comedy of the time. He would end the day with goodnight Rick and I would respond GOOD NIGHT DICK!!! Then laughter. Dick had a great laugh! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Condolence From: Garry Holland
Condolence: A 'forever' friend, of remarkable insight, humour and clarity. We went to the same schools, then UBC, then lived in Northern B.C. We canoed the Bowron Lakes Park and spent time at Bednesti Lake curing the world's ills around campfires. 'Dickie, Richard, Thomas, Albert, Pantywaist' will be truly missed.

Condolence From: Michael Hargreaves
Condolence: I was Dick's last articled student, at Wilson, King & Co. when he was appointed to the County Court bench. He was an inspiration, not only for his considerable skills but, and by far more, because of his attitude...his ethics and morality, combined with a great sense of humour. We gradually lost touch after his appointment to the Bench, other than on those occasions where I appeared before him as counsel. But I never lost and will never lose the memories I have of him while I was a student and for several years thereafter. I learned a lot from Dick in the brief time we worked together.

Condolence: Dear Gail and family members: Dick was not only an excellent judge and lawyer, he was a terrific person. His genuine decency, sense of humour and caring mean that his memory will be warm and lasting...particularly will that be so by his classmates in the class of '64 UBC Law. Gail, we know how much your love and support meant to him. Best wishes.

Condolence: Gail, Oliver, Meredith, Scott, and families I am so very sorry to hear of Dick's passing. Strantely, it was 17 years ago last week that he married Cliff and I. Any contributing failing on his part, in that we ultimately divorced, was remedied of course, by your introduction of him to Ethel! Gail, you and Dick were tremendous friends to us in those years; the love and affection you had for each other was inspirational. I'm honoured to have known you both. BC has lost one of the best judges we ever had. I trust his legacy will continue, carried forward by his kids and grandchildren, and by lawyers and judges who had the pleasure of working with him.
