When we think of a cremation service we often think of having limited choices and options. This is simply not the case.

Here are a few of the services we offer.
 
Celebration of Life Planning
Our family can help arrange memorable celebrations of life services that will honour, remember, and celebrate the life of your loved one. These services include booking and organizing the preferred venue, staffing for the celebration, setup of equipment, celebrant services from George McKenzie, organizing and preparing speakers, and much more.

Catering Services

We have a wide variety of food to choose from with our preferred caterers. From hot food (such as meatballs, quiches, pulled pork) to simple snack trays such as sandwiches, meats, and cheeses. A family favourite is the build your own sandwich bar which includes pulled pork, shredded beef, chicken and lots of toppings to choose from. There are also the wonderful dessert trays in which our caterers can make, from sugary crepes, nanaimo bars, cakes, and cookies. Prices vary on people and menu items. We can give a quoted breakdown when arranging with us.
Visitation Services
 A private or public viewing of your loved one is a time for support from family and friends. It also allows you and your family to see the deceased one last time. This time can also allow family and friends who may have not been able to see the deceased some private time to reflect on their love and time with them.

Our family can arrange a private or public visitation and we can look after all services including arranging a visitation venue, dressing of the deceased, embalming (if family requests), and make the visitation as peaceful and comforting as possible.

Celebrant Led Services

When you need our services to plan a funeral or celebration of life you can lean on our Owner/Funeral Director, George McKenzie, to assist with leading the service.

George has been a celebrant for the past 30 years and has led and spoke at hundreds of services. From small private family gatherings, to large services with over 500 people in attendance, George can help provide an intimate and comfortable environment to help honour your loved one.

Attending the Cremation
When you choose cremation, we offer a family the option of being in attendance for the cremation. This is not a required service by any means but some families find comfort in being present with their loved one before and when the cremation takes place.

You can feel reassured that we can accommodate this service as we own and operate our own crematorium and our family/staff are there with you to guide you through this service. 

Internment Ceremonies 

If you choose to have your loved ones cremains interred at a cemetery we can help arrange a caring and memorable ceremony to inter the urn. We can provide our celebrant to lead a service, selected music, seating for 10, and a framed picture of your loved one.

We also take care of bringing the urn to the cemetery for the internment as well as guide and taking care of guests as they arrive.
Personalized Memorials
No two people are the same, so no two funerals should be the same as well. We offer personalized services to all of our families, from memorable video tributes, a butterfly or dove release, custom service folders, guest books, and custom online memorial pages.

Families who use our services can expect a personalized ceremony, not a cookie cutter funeral.

Memorial Jewelry & Urns

Now a days there are a variety of ways to remember your loved one after cremation. At McKenzie Funeral Services we not only carry urns but a selection of keepsake urns, cremation jewelry, and memorial thumbies for families to choose from.

If you do decide on cremation, just remember you can still have a funeral, viewing, celebration of life, or any type of ceremony to honour your loved one. The only difference from a Burial Funeral is the means of disposition.

How Long Will it Take for the Urn to be Ready?

A lot of funeral homes won't have the cremation take place for weeks after the death and thus can't guarantee the time that the urn will be delivered to the family. We however own and operate our own crematorium and can usually guarantee delivery of the urn to the family within a week of the death, as long as we have received the proper paperwork from the Doctor or Coroner's Department.

Who Will Make the Transfer of my Loved One to the Funeral Home?

We always tell families who use our services that it will be either George, Geoff, Mark, Dave, or Jim who will be coming to the hospital, hospice, care home, or your residence to transfer your loved one to our funeral home. Some funeral homes contract this service out to another company so you may never know who will be making the transfer of your loved one.

Where Does the Cremation Take Place?

Many funeral homes do not own or operate their own crematorium, instead they contract out another crematorium's services. Some of these crematoriums maybe located in the Fraser Valley or the United States. For us this is not the case, we own and operate our own crematorium which is located in Squamish, B.C. (there is no crematorium on the North Shore). Our staff handle every cremation so you can have peace of mind everything will be looked after properly.
